I’ve explored London a few times, and I just love it here. I think the history of the city is amazing. My little New World brain can be just overwhelmed that there is a chunk of 1500 year old Roman wall in the middle of the city and anyone can walk up and touch it. Or that there are churches and pubs that have been in use longer than my country has been around!
There is always so much to explore, and I love finding new old things to see. The purpose of this trip is to photograph them in unique ways. I’m here with my father who is also a talented photographer and he wants to explore places with hard contrast for his black and white compositions. I think we will find lots of spots that are open for both our styles! In only half a day we already have at St Paul’s Cathedral.
This morning started pretty over cast, with a bit of rain threatening so we decided to have an easy morning of it. After a light breakfast at the hotel we started we decided to start at the London Eye. It was really fun to ride up and look out over the city. We got some fun pictures across the cityscape and of Westminster Palace.
After the Eye, our options were a bit limited as an issue had the Westminster Bridge was closed. So we took the train from Waterloo towards Trafalger Square. We had a light lunch along the way, and then explored Trafalger Square with lots of photos of the Lions and from St Martin In The Fields.
Next we saw Somerset House, a beautiful spot that is open to the public and has a beautiful fountain in the centre courtyard. Next was lunch at a pub, which was followed by a trip down the Strand towards the Inns of the Temple. Everything was starting to close for the day so we decided it was time to head back to the hotel. We had a lovely evening sampling gins at the bar before heading up to the roof top restaurant for dinner.
Seabird, unsurprisingly, was a seafood restaurant and we decided to go bit with the “Afternoon Sea.” Now if you know me at all, or maybe have read some of this blog, you’ll know that afternoon tea is a huge favourite of mine. So you may have thought the title was a typo! Nope, we enjoyed a three tier tower of seafood delights. Lobster, oysters, mussels and so much more. It was quite the indulgence and a wonderful treat! With the city skyline for a view it was an excellent dinner!
Sailing away on a tide of fine wine, planning another early start and dreaming of clear skies!
