Finally it’s time to get my travel shoes on again! As always I was very torn between going somewhere unexplored vs going back to a beloved location and seeing even more. As you can tell by the title, I am back in England. While I love London, part of the draw here is that I have family to visit too.
The first leg of my trip is two days of photography in London with my dad, who decided to join me while having his own getaway. We are staying in Southwark for a good central base to explore some of the best photography sites in the city.
I arrived about noon after the overnight flight, and was surprised to have a good amount of energy despite a terrible sleep. It certainly helped that I snagged a whole row to myself for the transatlantic flight! So after getting to the hotel and dumping my stuff we went for a walk.
First was a light lunch at one of the many riverside pubs. Then we followed the Thames east towards St Pauls. There was just a touch of soft light through the clouds to the cathedral had a lovely glow about it. We crossed over the London Bridge and headed back to the cathedral for more photographs and a walk across the Millennium Bridge.
That was a long enough day for me, so we headed back to the hotel via the Tate Modern for a look around for photo opportunities.
My dad and I enjoyed trying some new gins at the hotel bar with a fantastic bartender who was happy to show off some smaller distilleries, before having an early dinner and then a loooong sleep.
I’m having a lovely cup of tea to start my day, waiting out a bit of bad weather before we head back out into London armed with our trusty cameras!
